The hotel owner has four other locations in other Saudi Arabian cities: Jeddah, Dammam, Medina and Abha. The manager of your hotel, Waleed, has been trying to create an effective team of 20 employees from the four other hotels. So far, the team has met once in person. Figure 7-7 below lists the activities the team performed at the meeting. Analyze these activities, and then create a list of their strengths and weaknesses. FIGURE 7-7 Waleed assigned five people from each hotel to be on the team. He chose people all of the same gender and from the same social background, with similar skill sets, as he believes this will create a better team. Waleed said he would be the team leader. However, he chose all the people on the team from top management positions from the other hotels, to ensure he had the best people on board. Waleed assigned each person to a particular role on the team: Scheduler Assistant to Waleed Special events coordinator Secretary Customer go-between To appear fair, he selected those roles randomly, by picking names out of a hat. Everyone else would be a support person. The first task for the team is to address the top 10 complaints from customers.
