| QUICK TIP Use very few words on a slide so people have to lis- ten to your words instead. Technology @ Work: Presentation Software Presentation software is used to create and deliver electronic slide shows. Microsoft PowerPoint in particular, has become the standard way to make and give business presentations. PowerPoint is easily the most well-established of the presentation software tools. In fact, Microsoft estimates that more than 30 mil- lion PowerPoint presentations are given each day. You can also use other presentation software, some of which is designed for spe- cial circumstances and is shown below. 1. Microsoft PowerPoint Part of the Microsoft suite of programs, PowerPoint (https://www.microsoft. com/en-gb/microsoft-365/powerpoint) is widely used in business and edu- cation. Some of the main criticisms are: • It dictates the way you communicate by reducing ideas to short bullet points. • Slides are often very text heavy. This means viewers often read the words and do not listen to the explanation or the speaker. 2. Prezi If you want to use sophisticated animation effects in your presentation, Prezi is an excellent choice (www.prezi.com). However, Prezi requires some prac- tice to produce the sophisticated effects that you want. One advantage of using Prezi is that you can easily publish a presentation online. 3. Google Slides One of the applications available from Google is called Slides (https://www. google.co.uk/slides/about/), a tool for creating slide shows. The strength of Slides is not its features, which are more limited than PowerPoint's, but the fact that you are able to work directly in your Web browser and you don't need any special software. Everyone can work on the same set of slides at the same time and all changes are automatically saved. Like other Google appli- cations, Slides is designed for online collaboration and sharing. وزارة التعليم Ministry of Education 2024-1446 Business Decision Making S1 S2 S3.indb 271 Organizational Communication and Decision Making 271 30/06/2023 14:28

Apple Keynote If you use an Apple device, the presentation program is Apple Keynote (https://www.apple.com/keynote/). One key feature is called Keynote Remote, which you connect to an iPhone, or iPad so you can use it as a wire- less controller. You can then move around the room in which you are pre- senting, using your iPhone or iPad to control slides and read your slide notes.
