CHAPTER 6 SUMMARY Medical terminology and abbreviations are used in all health care occupations and facilities. • Medical terminology consists of the use of prefixes, suffixes, and word roots to create words. ⚫ Eponyms-terms named after people, places, or things-are also used in medical terminology. •Medical abbreviations are shortened forms of words, usually just letters, that are used to give orders or directions.
