Understanding privileged communications is important. Health care records are privileged communications and can be used as legal records in a court of law. • Health care providers must know and follow all of the regulations that determine which procedures, processes, and actions they can legally perform. ⚫ Ethical responsibilities are based on right or wrong. Most health care careers have established codes of ethics that provide standards of conduct. Health care providers must respect patients' rights. Health care facilities have written policies concerning these rights. ⚫ Professional standards of care provide guidelines for meeting legal responsibilities, ethics, and patients' rights. She suffered a major car accident in her junior year that left her with a knee injury, a mangled left ankle, and traumatic amputation of the distal end of her foot. After consulting with her physician and surgeon, Arwa has decided to replace her entire left leg with a prosthetic that would allow her to run without fatigue and navigate anything blocking her running path more smoothly and efficiently. In a small group, predict what would happen if she competes with her team after this mechanical enhancement. Come to a consensus and decide if this is fair. What ideas or technology supports your group's decision? 2. In an essay, define privileged communications and explain how electronic health care records can sometimes complicate keeping the medical record confidential. 14/10/2022 10:14

TERMS: abuse, slander, assault and battery, libel, false imprisonment, malprac- tice, invasion of privacy, negligence, defamation of character 2. In a small group, using the information in the terms chart, research a legal case for each term. Lead the class in a discussion regarding these cases in which you would include the legal responsibilities and implications of all involved. 3. With a small group, in five (5) minutes, write down as many patient basic rights as you can. Summarize the class findings on the board. With a partner, create a drawing depicting a person that has negative relationships.
